A training excellence initiative to meet global calls for a safer world of work has been launched by the Vision Zero training network. The initiative is inspired by the International Social Security Association’s (ISSA) Vision Zero strategy, which focuses on a culture of prevention underpinned by seven golden rules, and supported by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).
On behalf of the 15,000 strong Vision Zero network, made up of both major users of health and safety services and safety and health training providers from across the world, the ISSA Special Commission on Prevention has today announced a new accreditation programme in its pursuit of training excellence. This new model will offer training providers the opportunity to become either a basic accredited Vision Zero trainer or a professional accredited Vision Zero trainer offering certified Vision Zero training.
With the overriding aim of Vision Zero training focused on preventing all accidents, diseases and harm at work, the new accreditation programme will seek to grow the global community of 1,300 Vision Zero trainers by offering a range of new features. These include:
- Accreditation: Two levels of trainer accreditation – basic and professional
- Training package: A professionally designed training package with handbooks for both learners and trainers
- Certificates: The capacity for professional accredited Vision Zero trainers to issue training certificates
- CPD credentials: Continuous Professional Development (CPD) approved courses with CPD credentials
- Validation of courses: The facility for professional accredited trainers to get their own Vision Zero training course validated by IOSH
From the end of this year, only professional accredited Vision Zero trainers that deliver IOSH produced training will benefit from updated Vision Zero training materials and have be recognized as professional accredited Vision Zero trainers.

Vision Zero is a transformational approach to prevention that integrates the three dimensions of safety, health and well-being at all levels of work. Launched in September 2017 by ISSA, the programme quickly gathered support from governments, social security institutions and businesses around the world.
Developed by ISSA and delivered by IOSH, for professional accredited Vision Zero trainers who choose to deliver the IOSH produced Vision Zero training, the course teaches the principles and benefits of Vision Zero as a preventative strategy and empower learners with the tools they need to implement it. The six-hour course, accessible both face-to-face and through video conferencing, is aimed at those with a passion for reducing the number of accidents and harm in the workplace.
